Michael "Who needs something like that!" was my first thought when the online clearance site woot.com (Rundbrief 03/2005), as part of their weekly "Two for Tuesday" promotion, recently offered the coffee maker slider "Handy Caddy" in a convenient two-pack.
After studying the corresponding Youtube-Infomercials, however, it suddenly became clear to me that our household also urgently needed a "Handy Caddy": Our coffee maker is located at the back of the countertop. To fill it with water from above, you have to pull it out first because of the kitchen cabinets hanging above it. In the dark ages before the invention of the Handy Caddy, you had to laboriously lift the coffee maker, but with the new plastic base, it now elegantly rolls out 30 cm with just one hand. A clever idea, and not expensive at all -- a top product!
If you look closely, you might notice the small white box in the outlet. Our Japanese coffee maker from the brand Zojirushi brews far better coffee than the Cuisinart makers otherwise available in America, but it lacks any technical features like an automatic shut-off. And since we coffee snobs don't drink coffee that has been sitting on the hot plate for more than half an hour, the Belkin Conserve Socket F7C009q" simply cuts the power to the coffee maker after exactly 30 minutes. This way, we save energy and can go on vacation with peace of mind.
