Figure [1]: Barbecue potato chips by Lays

Angelika Anyone who has known me for a while knows that, besides Bahlsen peanut flips, I am an absolute fan of potato chips. I'll just casually mention here that for my 30th birthday, I had received a garland made of 30 bags of potato chips. That says it all, doesn't it? However, I am also known for being a bit picky about quality, so I only like certain kinds, because not all potato chips are the same. In Germany, only those from Funny Frisch made it to the table. By the way, I've already passed quite a few blind tests.

Figure [2]: The slightly greasier Hawaiian-style BBQ chips from Trader Joe's

In America, there is, of course, a huge variety of potato chips. After years of trying different kinds, my favorites have emerged as the so-called barbecue chips. Here, barbecue refers to grilling, and Americans also enjoy eating steak by dipping the cut pieces of meat into barbecue sauce. Now, you shouldn't think that the chips taste like grilled meat. They are simply very flavorful with a taste reminiscent of paprika chips. My absolute favorite variety is the Hickory Barbecue Potato Chips from Trader Joe's. They are not only super seasoned but also incredibly crispy. Lay's Barbecue Chips come in second place. The chips are thinner than those from Trader Joe's but are also characterized by a finely spiced note.
